Papal Visit of His Holiness, Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark to the U.S.A. from September 13, 2018 – October 11, 2018

His Holiness will be arriving to the United States on the 13th of September in New York for the start of a Papal Pastoral visit to the parishes and dioceses of the North Eastern United States until the 11th of October.

His Holiness is the 118th pope and the successor to St. Mark the Apostle. St. Mark is the writer of the oldest Gospel among the four. He is the Apostle whom the Lord Jesus Christ celebrated the Last Supper in his house in Jerusalem.

The successors of St. Mark have had leadership in the initial Three Ecumenical Councils of Nicaea, Constantinople and Ephesus. The Coptic Church is the founder of the first theological school of Alexandria, and the origin of monasticism for the whole world through St. Anthony the Great.

Egypt is best remembered for the very memorable and honoring verses from the Holy Bible:

1. “Blessed is Egypt My people.” (Isaiah 19:25)
2. “Out of Egypt I called My son.” (Hosea 11:1 & Matthew 2:15)
3. “In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the LORD at its border.” (Isaiah 19:19)

The Coptic Orthodox Church is the largest Christian Church in the Middle East. The Coptic Orthodox Church includes the Church in Egypt, and all of the Dioceses throughout the world for its immigrants.

She is a member of the World Council of Churches, the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, and different Continental religious’ bodies throughout the world.
